plogg is a combined smart meter plug (kWh) and data logger, especially suited for metering,
monitoring and control at the point of use - the appliance level.

Hardware

plogg can be supplied as either a stand-alone end user device, or an integrated energy reporting network or as an embedded device for incorporation into OEM products. As a plug-in device, a number of international plug formats are available including Schuko, French, Swiss and Australian.

The plogg use single chip single-phase meters that integrate all the primary functional blocks required of a solid state electricity meter. For OEMs interested in connecting the plogg to a Home Gateway or Smart Energy sytem there are a number of useful features :13A UK, 16A Schuko and 10A Australian formats

  • 8051 compatible microprocessor
  • independent 32-bit digital computation engine,
  • voltage reference,
  • temperature sensor
  • RAM, FLASH memory, real time clock, and
  • 2 UARTs
  • Current sensor with option of an external split core CT 100A
  • 16A relay
  • DLL/API library .

In addition to advanced measurement functions, the real time clock function allows time of use (TOU) metering information for multi-rate applications.

A 64kB FRAM memory provides fast data storage for up to 5000 measured values plus associated date and time stamps. The logging interval can be set from between 1 minute and 1 month.

The plogg takes 50 samples of the voltage and current signals over each cycle period.

The Plogg Manager software monitors both instantaneous and cumulative values. Logged data is downloaded in csv format to a spreadsheet or displayed in graphs:

  • Cumulative kWh
  • Period delta values for kWh,
  • rms voltage, rms current
  • max Watts, Current and Voltage
  • Reactive Power
  • Frequency and Phase Angle
  • Logging date and time
